SQUAD TRIALS 2025
*** West Riding Girls County Leagues Squads - Programme Update ***
Following a strategic review of our programme after 3 seasons, and meeting with relevant stakeholders including the WRCFA and the FA, we are pleased to announce our new plans and reforms to the County Squads ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Expansion and Regionalisation
We are pleased to confirm the expansion of our programme to include 2 squads at each of our age groups (Under 10 to Under 15) starting from this coming season.

These two teams will be divided based on region, with the aim of increasing our reach within the county, and reduce travel times and logistics for those girls within the programme.

These regions will be East and West, based on the postcodes of the home address for each player. The Western section will be based at Carlton Bolling, Bradford and the Eastern section will be based at WRCFA in Woodlesford, Leeds.

As a result, the number of available spaces within the squads will increase significantly (full figures below can be found under the "Trials" section).
Revision of Eligibility Criteria
Following a review of our eligibility criteria, and adjustments to the way our programme will run, we can confirm the following change.

All girls playing based within the West Riding region, whether they play in the WRGFL, H&CGFL, JPL, or mixed/boys league, will be eligible to trial and participate within the squads. The only exception to this will be girls registered with a girls pro academy set up, who will not be ineligible.

Professional Girls Academies are: Sheffield United, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Everton and Sunderland.
Programme Reform
The WRCLGS will move to a games led programme for 2025/26. This will include a significant increase in the number of games compared to previous seasons, with a reduction in organised training sessions.

There will also be a review and adjustment on how those training sessions are administered, with an increased focus on Unit specific development across age groups, to better suit the needs of the girls within.
Trials
As a result of the above changes, there are a greatly increased number of vacancies for the upcoming season, and our trials process will expand to account for this.

The total number of vacancies to be trialled for this summer (all age groups denote player's true age group for 2025/26):

Under 10 - 24 outfield & 4 goalkeepers (School Year 5 from September 2025)
Under 11 - 14 outfield & 2 goalkeepers (School Year 6 from September 2025)
Under 12 - 25 outfield & 4 goalkeepers (School Year 7 from September 2025)
Under 13 - 32 outfield & 4 goalkeepers (School Year 8 from September 2025)
Under 14 - 28 outfield & 4 goalkeepers (School Year 9 from September 2025)
Under 15 - 16 outfield & 2 goalkeepers (School Year 10 from September 2025)

Trials will take place over the following dates:
Sunday 07 September 2025
Sunday 14 September 2025
Sunday 21 September 2025
Sunday 28 September 2025
Sunday 05 October 2025

The trial application window will be extended until Friday 15th August at 10pm BST, to allow for the new criteria to be shared to all relevant parties. Link at the bottom of the page.
The WRCLGS are running our trials in September to avoid clashing with Academy and Schools trials. We hope that the parents of girls who have already been successful at other trials but are still eligible to trial for the WRCLGRS give some thought to whether playing in another 'Elite Squad' is going to be detrimental to the child. We see so many players who are playing and training 5 or 6 times a week. That cannot be a good thing.
